No, absolutely not. Inhalation therapy is a highly effective tool for treating symptoms and supporting the lungs, but it does not replace the need to minimize the root causes of respiratory problems. Low-dust roughage, good ventilation, and a hygienic environment are the foundation of any respiratory therapy and are often crucial for long-term success. Our inhaler nebulizes brine (e.g., 6%) at a speed of about 0.6–1.2 ml per minute. If, on the other hand, you use a 0.9% NaCl solution, the average nebulization rate is approx. 1.2 ml per minute (maximum output up to 2.5 ml/min).

For example, if you fill in 20 ml of brine, you can inhale continuously for about 28 to 33 minutes. With 20 ml of a 0.9% NaCl solution, it would take about 14–17 minutes.

Positive signs can include: less coughing, less or clearer nasal discharge, easier breathing (less visible effort, lower resting respiratory rate), improved performance, and an overall better well-being of the horse. Always discuss any observed changes with your veterinarian.

Our inhalers are manufactured from high-quality plastics: PLA (polylactic acid) and PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol). We would like to emphasize that both materials in their pure form are considered food-safe, and we use exclusively certified filaments. These materials are widely used and can be found, for example, in food packaging, medical devices, and children's toys, which underscores their safety.

PLA (the inhaler mask) is less heat-resistant (up to 45°C), while PETG (the tank) can withstand temperatures up to approx. 70°C. For this reason, we advise against steam disinfection in order not to compromise the shape and function of the inhaler. For hygienic cleaning, we recommend a thorough wash with warm water and mild soap, followed by disinfection with an alcohol-free agent suitable for animals.

After use, it is sufficient to fill the nebulizer with distilled water, rinse it, and optionally turn the device on for about 2–3 seconds. This way, both nozzles are briefly cleaned with water vapor. It is important not to touch the membranes directly with your fingers or a cloth, as they are very sensitive. Afterward, simply let the nebulizer air dry.

The use of essential oils in a mesh nebulizer is generally not recommended and can even be harmful to the device. Mesh nebulizers are typically designed for use with water-soluble medications or isotonic saline solution. Oil-containing liquids can clog and damage the nebulizer's membrane, which can lead to malfunctions or even total device failure.

Step-by-step instructions for replacement:

Disassembly of the membranes:

• Turn the nebulizer over and loosen 8 of the small screws (holding the black cover). Leave the two screws in the corners tight for now.

• Remove the flap (which looks like a pair of glasses).

• The membranes are now visible.

• Remove the semi-transparent outer cover in the area where the on/off switch is located.

• Loosen the two screws and remove the small electronic circuit board.

• Disconnect the cables from the circuit board.

• Pull the cables with the plugs through the designated openings on the other side of the nebulizer.

Assembly – Important Notes:

The installation of the new membranes is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. Please be sure to observe the following points:

• The membranes must be inserted completely flat and centered.

• The cables must lie neatly in the small grooves/channels provided for them.

• The cover (the flap that presses against the membranes) must only be screwed tight very gently, without applying any force, in order to avoid damaging the membranes.

In principle, the inhaler can also be used in winter and in an open stable.

Please note, however, that very low temperatures negatively affect the nebulization speed and, in extreme cases, can shorten the lifespan of the membrane or electronics, or even cause damage.

We therefore recommend storing the device in a dry place at room temperature when not in use.

Yes, absolutely! Before you begin inhalation therapy, your horse should always be examined and diagnosed by a veterinarian. Only your veterinarian can determine if inhalation is the right form of therapy, which substances should be inhaled in what dosage and frequency, and whether further measures or medications are necessary. Unauthorized treatment can cause harm.

Most commonly, physiological saline solution (0.9% NaCl) is inhaled for moisturization and mucus clearance. In addition, veterinarians can prescribe special medications suitable for inhalation, such as corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory), bronchodilators (airway-dilating), or mucolytics (mucus-thinning).

Important note for device protection: Since the EquiAirLite uses a highly sensitive vibrating mesh system (membrane), essential oils, hyaluronic acid, oily or viscous substances, as well as herbal teas or chamomile extracts must never be used. These substances will instantly clog the microscopically fine pores of the membrane or cause irreparable damage. Only use completely clear, water-soluble inhalation solutions that are explicitly approved for mesh inhalers.

Inhalation therapy is frequently used for various respiratory diseases, particularly in chronic conditions such as equine asthma (RAO/heaves or IAD), bronchitis, and allergies, but also as a supportive treatment for acute infections or to loosen mucus.

Double-mesh technology uses two adjacent, finely perforated sieves to atomize the inhalation solution particularly effectively and evenly. The generated particle size of approximately 5 micrometers (µm) is optimal because particles of this size can penetrate deep into the lower airways and alveoli, where they can exert their effect most effectively.

The EquiAirLite features a generous XXL tank with a capacity of 50 ml. This often allows for long inhalation sessions or the administration of larger amounts of inhalation solution without the need to refill in between.

The "Normal" size is best suited for horses with a muzzle circumference of up to 58 cm and a weight of up to 800 kg.

The XXL size is intended for horses with a muzzle circumference of 59 cm to 70 cm.

Inhalation therapy is a method in which liquid substances (e.g., medication or saline solution) are converted into extremely fine particles (an aerosol) using a nebulizer, which the horse then inhales. In this way, the active ingredients reach the airways and lungs directly.

The battery life is sufficient for several inhalation sessions, depending on the duration and settings. The battery is conveniently charged via USB, which provides you with flexible charging options (e.g., via laptop, power bank, or with a USB power adapter).

A major advantage of the EquiAirLite is its virtually silent operation. This minimizes stress and anxiety for the horse during inhalation, significantly increasing the acceptance of the therapy.

The EquiAirLite system is designed for quick and easy cleaning. The necessary cleaning after each session usually takes less than 3 minutes. Detailed instructions can be found in the user manual.

Inhalation enables a targeted effect directly at the source within the airways. This often allows for a lower dosage of medication than with oral or injectable administration, thereby reducing potential side effects in the rest of the body. It also helps to liquefy mucus and moisturize the airways.

The warranty on the inhaler itself (excluding wear parts such as the nebulizer) is usually two years.

The warranty on the battery is 6 months.
